OutreachBeyond providing training for students and researchers interested in the field of energy biosciences, the EBI believes that educating the non-scientific student population and the general public on the benefits of the EBI and its technology advances is an essential part of its mission. Through its affiliation with UCB, the LBNL and UIUC, the EBI offers a wealth of educational opportunities for the general student population K-12, undergraduate and graduate students in public policy, policymakers, the larger agricultural community, women and under-represented minorities. Examples of the EBI's efforts at national and global information-sharing and collaboration include: EBI Joins U.S. Universities to Promote Energy Research, Education (May 28, 2009) Scientists Unite to Provide Balanced View on Bioeconomy Debate (May 19, 2009) India Looks to EBI for Help with Biofuels Center; Student Exchange in Year 2 (March 2009) In addition, EBI researchers and staff fulfill dozens of requests each year to make presentations and to speak at national and international forums and organizations. In this way, the institute is sharing its expertise and resources for the benefit of the global scientific community and encouraging fact-based collaborations in alternative energy research. The following are just a sampling of the appearances made by EBI leadership in the past two years: Canadian Genomics Society Society for Computational Biology University of Massachusetts Symposium on Biofuels Media appearances, including the National Press Club, KGO television, National Public Radio, and Dutch television Genetics Society, annual meeting San Francisco Rotary Club Environmental Defense Fund "science day" Society for Toxicology, annual meeting Material Research Society, annual meeting Society of Industrial Microbiology Volvo Symposium Princeton University meeting on energy and the environment International Weed Society Federal of European Biochemical Societies University of Wisconsin University of California, Davis Society of Environmental Journalists, annual meeting California Institute of Technology Keystone Symposium Stanford University
